Austin's 200 pounder!

Trinidad's tarpon fishery is mostly a live-bait drift fishery, but we caught them on artificial baits and fly as well. In between the two groups, Capt. Jonathan and J.R. fished the fly for 3 hours and went 2 for 2 on tarpon. The first fish was estimated around 100 pounds. The fish won the battle against the 12wt fly rod but we won the war releasing him to swim again. The second tarpon on fly was a much more manageable 20 pounder. Capt Jonathon and crew have gotten much better over the last few years at targeting Trinidad tarpon on the fly. We also caught several tarpon on soft plastic lures. It is much harder to get the hook set than the live bait fishing so you jump a bunch fishing plastics. Capt. Jonathan and crew are ready to target them however your heart desires.

We fish with local captain Jonathan De La Rosa who is the innovator of Trinidad's tarpon fishery. Jonathan grew up on these waters and knows the movements of Trinidad tarpon better than anyone. We fish on the 34' Ocean Master "Animal" with Jonathan and mate. For groups larger than 4 anglers, Jonathan has two other boats as well. We stay on a private residential island off of Trinidad. Super neat place nestled in a cove, only accessible by boat, and owned by Capt. Jonathan's family. There is club house bar area (with green roof) that we eat our meals and socialize. Awesome swimming in crystal clear calm water right off the deck. The main house (to right) has 3 bedrooms 3.5 baths with a huge TV area and second kitchen. Then there is a secondary house with 3 more bedrooms and 2 baths. Each bedroom has at least 3 beds so we can fish a big group if needed. Groups of 3 to 10 anglers work good for this property. We have a chef, a maid, and a house manager on hand. Chef Marlou cooks up excellent traditional meals, and the house and boat are both stocked with soft drinks, water, and beer. There is also good WiFi and Direct TV at house.

Fish Call Adventures offers 4 night - 3 full days fishing packages for 3-10 anglers to target tarpon off of Trinidad. The all inclusive package includes all ground/water transportation, lodging, meals, drinks, beer, 3 full days fishing, everything but airfare to Port of Spain and tips to boat and staff. The fishing is excellent year round but "hosted" trips are only available Jan-Apr. Capt. J.R. Waits comes along as your "host" to make sure everything goes smoothly and to document your adventure on film. J.R. can book un hosted trips for people wanting to fish Apr-Nov as well. Travel to Trinidad is sometimes not recommended by the U.S. Government, but don't worry, Capt Jonathon and crew take every precaution to make our trip a safe and memorable one.
